Do kids get gifts on Eid?
Eid celebrations occur twice a year, and whether the occasion is Eid-al-Fitr or Eid-al-Adha the day is usually celebrated with food and gifts. Eid-al-Fitr is celebrated at the end of Ramadan and Eid-al-Adha coincides with the end of Hajj, the annual Islamic Pilgrimage to Mecca. The word Eid means 'festival' or 'feast' and the events are celebrated as an important part of the Muslim religious calendar. Prayer services are held at local mosques and families attend with friends and relatives.
During Eid, children traditionally receive gifts in the form of money. Over the years this has been expanded to include things like jewellery or clothing, and more recently items like toys and other presents have been incorporated as part of the celebration.
